Specialism 03 · Platform, DevOps & SRE

Platform, DevOps & SRE for iGaming.

The engineers who keep live iGaming products stable, deployed and observable. Kubernetes, Terraform, CI/CD, on-call, SLOs and incident response, in an environment where uptime and real money meet.

Platform, DevOps & SRE in iGaming

Where uptime is a revenue metric.

iGaming cannot afford downtime. Peak load hits during the biggest sports events of the year, the World Cup final, the Grand National, the Champions League knockouts, and every minute the platform is degraded is direct revenue lost and, potentially, a regulator conversation the next day. Platform, DevOps and SRE are the disciplines that keep it standing when it matters most.

The tooling is now largely standardised. Kubernetes, Terraform, GitHub Actions or GitLab CI, Prometheus and Grafana, Datadog or Elastic. What varies is the operational maturity underneath. Some operators run world-class SRE practice with defined SLOs, meaningful error budgets and blameless postmortems. Others are earlier in that journey and need engineers who can help them get there without lecturing anyone.

Hiring well here is about both technical depth and temperament. The best platform, DevOps and SRE engineers we place can handle a 2am incident calmly, then write the postmortem that stops it happening again. They think about cost and reliability together, they understand that developer experience is a real KPI, and they can work across teams without becoming a bottleneck. Rare combination, and worth taking seriously.

The talent market for platform, DevOps and SRE engineers in iGaming is under sustained pressure. Every operator wants strong reliability practice, most are still building it, and the engineers with genuine SRE experience in high-throughput real-money systems are a small pool. Compensation reflects that, particularly at senior and staff levels. On-call rotations, incident response arrangements and platform team structures vary considerably between operators, and briefing candidates accurately on what a role actually involves day to day is often the difference between an accepted offer and a wasted process. We do that work upfront so nothing surprises anyone at week two.

What we assess

More than a tool list.

Kubernetes on a CV proves nothing. We assess the practice underneath the tools, how a candidate thinks about reliability, cost, developer experience and the human side of on-call.

Why a specialist

Why platform hiring takes a specialist.

We know the tooling landscape

Kubernetes, Terraform, the observability stack. We know the operators using each and the engineers who move between them.

We test operational signal

Postmortems, on-call maturity, how a candidate handles pressure. Not just which certifications they hold.

We understand real-money uptime

Peak sports traffic, financial correctness, regulator visibility. We brief candidates on the stakes.

A European network

Platform and SRE talent we know personally across Malta, Gibraltar, Cyprus, the UK and remote Europe.

FAQ

Platform hiring, answered.

What is the difference between Platform, DevOps and SRE for hiring?

Platform focuses on internal developer platforms and tooling. DevOps sits closer to pipelines and automation. SRE owns reliability with SLOs and error budgets. Overlap is real, and the right title depends on your team model.

Do you place contract platform engineers?

Yes. Contract and permanent, on-site and fully remote across Malta, Gibraltar, Cyprus, the UK and remote Europe.

Can you find engineers who have done on-call in iGaming?

Often, yes. Where the role requires specific iGaming on-call experience we prioritise it. Elsewhere we widen to strong candidates from fintech, payments and other 24/7 real-money sectors.

How quickly can I have a shortlist?

Typically five to ten working days for permanent roles. Contract shortlists move faster.

What salary ranges should we expect for platform, DevOps and SRE roles?

Platform and SRE compensation has risen sharply as demand has outstripped supply. Mid-level engineers in Malta typically sit in the €55-75k range, seniors €75-100k, staff SREs and platform leads €100-140k. On-call arrangements and platform ownership scope affect total package meaningfully. UK and fully remote European roles carry different bands. We share current market data on the specific role during intake.
